Stanley Chester Elliott, Jr., 83, our loving Dad, Papa, brother, and uncle, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 14, 2020. He was born in St. Louis, MO, on February 27, 1937, the son of the late Stanley Chester and Lois Elaine (Washburn) Elliott.
He started his career with the Wabash Railroad. During that time, he was drafted by the U.S. Army in July 1961 and after being honorably discharged in July 1963, he returned to the Wabash Railroad. In 1964 the Wabash merged with Norfolk & Western where he continued his railroad career until 1984, having relocated from St. Louis to Roanoke. VA, in 1966.
After leaving the railroad, he decided to enter the ministry, getting his degree from Moody Bible College. He was a pastor for the Church of God, in Shawsville, VA. and spent time touring around the country with a gospel group.
With the passing of his wife and his children grown, he moved to Jacksonville, FL, before finally heading out to O’Fallon, IL.
He loved sports in general, having played baseball and basketball as a youth through high school, with his passion being baseball. He was a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed attending games when he could.
He loved to fish, especially with his grandchildren. He spent his life trying to get his children or grandchildren to get him a boat.
He is survived by a son, Stanley Chester Elliott III of Blacksburg, VA; three daughters, Barbara S. Elliott, of O’Fallon, IL, Karen M. Donovan and her husband, Mike, of Waynesboro, VA, Sharon K. Proffitt and her husband Wayne, of Christiansburg, VA; sister, Carol McLean of Waterloo, IL.; three granddaughters, Jessica L. Elliott of O’Fallon, IL, Sarah M. Romano and her husband, Luigi, of Bethel, CT and Jaina R. Proffitt of Christiansburg, VA; one grandson, Michael Donovan of Elkton, VA; two nephews, Timothy Mclean and his wife, Dawn, of Waterloo, IL and Scott McLean of Waterloo, IL.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona P. (Bowers) Elliott and two sons, Mark Stevens Elliott and Daniel Ray Elliott.
