Ron is survived by: Dawn (wife), David (Marsha) Steen (son), David M., Hayley, Bryant Steen (grandchildren) of Belleville, IL, Tom (Donna) Steen (brother) of Albuquerque NM, Kenneth Dove (brother) of Belleville, IL, Gary (Shelley) Dove (brother) of Freeburg, IL, Karen Hoffmann (sister) of Albers, IL, Deanna (Larry) Sherland (sister) of Swansea, IL, and many nephews and nieces.
Ron was born in East St. Louis, graduated from Belleville Township High School, served in the United States Air Force, graduated from Belleville Area College earning an Associate of Science Degree in Business Administration, Graduated from Southern Illinois University earning a Bachelor of Science/Occupational Education. For many years Ron played Softball as a pitcher. He was very involved with the Southside Improvement Association and the Illinois Amateur Softball Association where he ran the Illinois State Tournament for 10 years for the AA Amateur Softball Leagues. For his Meritorious Service, he was inducted into the Illinois Amateur Softball Association Hall of fame in 1990. Ron was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Church in Belleville, IL. Ron was a volunteer with Hospice of Southern Illinois where he befriended many people in their final days, and he was a member of the Moose Lodge #1221 in Swansea, IL with his dad and all his brothers. In Ron’s retirement years, he worked passionately as an usher with the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium in St. Louis Missouri.
Ron passed away quietly after battling Leukemia.
