He was born on April 23, 1929 in Columbus, Ohio to Elmer Frank and Isabel Cunningham Francis.
Bob graduated from the Huntingdon, Pennsylvania High School in 1947. He attended both Juniata College in Huntingdon and Ohio Wesleyan University prior to joining the United States Air Force. While stationed at Scott AFB, 1st Lieutenant Francis met Marilyn J. Lindauer playing bridge at the USO. They married in June of 1955. Bob completed his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biological Sciences from Washington University in St. Louis. He taught science in the Collinsville USD #10 until his retirement in 1990. Bob was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the St. Clair Lodge #24 A.F & A.M. He enjoyed genealogy, playing games, and traveling with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn, in 2013; his brother, George and his brother-in-law Curt C. Lindauer, Jr.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Carol Francis-Jorns (Bernard) of Millstadt; a granddaughter, Lindsay Jorns Miller (David) of Okinawa, Japan; a grandson, Curtis B. Jorns (Kristen Naprawa) of Edwardsville, IL.; a great-granddaughter, Ellowyn Isabell Miller and many cousins, nieces, and nephews across the country.
Interment into the Valhalla Sanctuary Chapel of Memories Mausoleum will be handled by the Valhalla-Gaerdner-Holten Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held on a future date.
