Richard proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Corporal and he was a member of VFW Post 6632. He attended SIUE and Bradley University, where he obtained his PHD in Education. He was a professor and administrator at the Center for Children with Behavioral Disorders (CCBD) in Centreville, IL. After retiring, Richard was a professor at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO for a few years.
He met his wife Sharon (whom he’s been with for the last 35 years) at Cutter’s Bar & Grill and later married her there on November 11, 2005. He was an avid trout fisherman and hunter, plus he enjoyed sporting clays and trap shooting. Richard lived life to the fullest. He was incredibly intelligent, kind, thoughtful and fun to be around and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Thomas Robinson and Mary Louise Robinson (nee Rodman) and his siblings Bob, Bill and Betty Robinson.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon D. Robinson (nee Smith); step-son, Michael B. (Michelle) Smith; daughters, Carrie (Kevin) Hess and Heidi Robinson; son, Sean Robinson; grandchildren, Lance Dixon, Lexi (Jeremiah) Johnson, Oliva (Blake) Mix, Anna Hess, Jake Robinson; step-grandchildren, Michael D. Smith, Lexie Smith and Jessica (Kevin) Rocket; great-grandchildren, Drake Johnson, Harrison Johnson, Summer Dixon and Bentley Mix-Lauck; siblings-in-law, Judy Atkinson and her son Steve, Gary Ray (Joyce) Smith, Terry Smith and his son Terry Jr., Ronnie (Sandy) Smith; plus countless extended family, friends and colleagues.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Friends may visit from 10 AM to 1 PM on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home in Belleville, IL, with a memorial service to commence at 1 PM. Military honors and a committal service will take place immediately after at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. The family will gather at Cutter’s Bar & Grill in Belleville once all services have concluded.
