I am so incredibly sad that we have lost Karen far too soon. I had the great good fortune to grow up as a faculty brat in the Department of Economics where Karen was the den mother and boss of all things. During my college years, she was my direct supervisor during my many work-study stints between semesters, and improbably managed to be at once my boss and confidante, mischievous friend and partner in crime. We placed earnest bets with real stakes on her plans for my future versus my own. I loved getting to introduce my children to her during later visits back home, and our shared laughter and wordplay never changed. I cherish my many joyful memories, as I do the quilt she won for me at Bingo as a wedding gift, and will miss her wisdom and kindness. Rest in Power, Karen. I love you still.

I’m really saddened by the loss of a dear friend and colleague, Karen. For 15 years, she was not just a part of my work life but a source of joy and laughter. Her funny stories, especially those involving her cat Tinker and his love bites, were a highlight.

Karen was an amazing cook, and her baked treats were something we all looked forward to. More importantly, she was always there with a smile and a listening ear whenever you needed someone to talk to.

I'll cherish the warm and happy memories she left me with. Her kindness and cheerful spirit will always be remembered and missed.

We were together in Gabrielettes, drum and bugle core, so many wonderful memories of marching and parades and all the little towns around Illinois. They should rest in peace in the arms of the Lord and enjoy being with her sisters and parents in heaven.

Rest in peace, Karen. Thank you for all that you did. You impacted so many people in ways that you probably did not even realize.

I worked with Karen for over twenty years, since I joined Washington University to the time she retired. Karen always helped me and always cheered for me over the years. 
Karen considered our department part of her family. She used to tell me that she enjoyed a lot watching us (her faculty) growing up. 
I last talked to her before the summer. I am greatly saddened by her passing and will miss her affection.

When I joined the Economics Department at Washington University in 1990, Karen was already boss of the department staff. The department was like family to her and she was the department's fiercely loyal protector.  My daughter, Katherine, grew up with Karen a familiar presence.  Katherine, my wife, Suzanne, and I are greatly saddened by her passing.

I am so sorry to hear about Karen's passing. I worked with her for her entire time at Washington University, about 40 years. We were particularly close during my years as chair of the Economics Department (1999-2005) when we spent every working day just a few feet apart and talked about work and life multiple times every day. Karen was capable, dedicated, and loyal. She always worked hard. She was a good friend and she will be missed.
