Janet was born August 2, 1944 in Pemiscot County, MO to William and Eunice (nee Evans) Jenkins.
Janet graduated from Cooter High School in 1962 then attended School of the Ozarks. She obtained a
Bachelor’s in Social Work from SIUE and was a social worker for many years. She was also a faithful
member of First Christian Church in Belleville. Janet was a dedicated, compassionate, accepting and
intelligent woman who will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Josephine Reynolds, Nelda Schmittlig, Ruth Uhls
and Alma Marie Bishop; one brother, Robert C. Jenkins and brothers-in-law, Lloyd Jernigan and Jim
Colgan.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her son, Shane (Tiffany Kurkey) Riley; sisters, Maxine Jernigan,
Peggy Colgan, Brenda Lipe and Judy Collier; brothers, Gary Jenkins and David (Kathy) Jenkins; myriad
nieces, nephews, friends and other extended family.
She has graciously donated her body to Washington University for science. There are no services
scheduled at this time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
