

James was known for his sophisticated humor and his large personality. He graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1953, He served in the United States Army and was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War, and Teamsters Local #688 (Retired). James enjoyed reading and watching the classics on TV. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
James is preceded in death by his parents, Loren A. and Catherine, nee Bamman, Lovell; brother, Earl Lovell and sister, Pat Holmes.
Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 49 years Norma, nee Hanenberger, Lovell whom he married in 1962; children, Debra (Mark) Zigler of O’Fallon, Illinois, Susanna Gray of Belleville, Illinois, Pamela (Rick) Bicknell of Belleville, Illinois and Alvin L. (Judith) Lovell of Piedmont, Missouri; many grand children and great grandchildren; sisters, Phyllis (Donald) Syrcle and Nancy (Jack) Russell; and brother in law, Robert Holmes.

Visitation: Visitation will be held Friday, September 16, 2011 from 4:00pm – 8:00pm at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home.
Funeral service: Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 10:00am at the Peace Lutheran Church, 1209 Royal Heights Road, Belleville, Illinois
Interment will follow services in Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, Illinois
