James was a retired Lieutenant with the Belleville Police Department. James received numerous awards, certificates and achievements during his years on the force. James was a loving and devoted husband, father and grand father. He was the owner of The Lincoln Jug for over twenty years. Owner of Brede Apartments. He owned and operated Brede Photography, Taking new born babies pictures at Memorial Hospital, St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and at Scott Air Force Base. He was a member of the Belleville Elks Lodge #1241, Masonic Lodge #54, The Belleville Police Protective Association. He served as Chairman of the Belleville Police and Fire Commission, served on the Finance Counsel at Cathedral Church, Chairman of the Belleville Mental Health Foundation Board, Board member of the St. Clair County Public Building Commission,
James was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley O. and Cleola, nee Day, Brede.
Surviving are his loving wife, Lana, nee Fulte, Brede whom he married on March 10, 1990; Children, James S. (Lori) Brede, David A. Brede, Deborah (David) Scobbie and Leigha M. (Ryan Barklage) Brede; grand children, Jennifer Curtis, Steven J. Brede, Sarah C. Brede, Alexis Brede, Nicholas Brede, Kayla Brede and one on the way, Sophie Rae Barklage; great grandchild, Ashton J. Brede and a mother in Law, Cecilia A. Fulte whom he loved and adored. Also, survived by his first wife, Beverly J. Brede.
