Herschel E Johnson

Herschel graduated from Belleville Township High School in 1965, where he earned a football scholarship to the University of Illinois. After graduating from Illinois in 1969, he was a high school teacher and football coach.

Herschel successfully ran his own real estate and development company.

He was a director of the National Association of Home Builders, and an Illinois Real Estate Broker, and past president of the Greater Southwestern Home Builder’s Association. He loved building homes.

He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend, and was a fierce St Louis Cardinals fan.

Herschel was preceded in death by his parents, Herschel & Violet, nee Smith, Johnson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Janice Johnson, nee Grisham; children, Garrett (Courtney) Johnson of Columbia, IL; Lance (Rachel) Johnson of O’Fallon, IL; Jennifer (Scott) Gunn of Belleville, IL; Angie (Mike Geller) Long of Swansea, IL; Aimee (Wade) Weeks of Ellicott City, MD; grandchildren, Elise Johnson, Audra Johnson, Cambry Johnson, Cadence Johnson, Katie Weeks, Sabrina Gunn, Samantha Gunn, Nathan Weeks, Graham Gunn, Ryan Long, Kyle Long, Michael Jones, Rachel Geller, Jordan Geller; great grandchildren, Lyrick Jones, Sawyer Jones; sisters, Diane (Steve) Thompson, Shella (Ernie) Collins

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home, 3412 Frank Scott Parkway West, Belleville, IL 62223.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Valhalla Gardens of Memory.
