I enjoyed working with Gary and my kids liked him as their teacher. My thoughts and prayers to Gary's family.

I had Mr Stein for math back in the early 80's... loved him as a teacher.  I am now a professional person and owe him for some of my skills I use today. He used to do this contest with kids in class, where they would use their calculator while he used his mind to compete in speed for addition/ subtraction.  I never saw him lose to the calculator.   I will  ALWAYS be impressed by that. Rest in Peace

I enjoyed teaching alongside Gary all six years of my career at WJHS. He was a special friend and a man that thoroughly loved the students. He passed on his math skills to many students that are now very successful because of their math abilities. I pass on my sincere condolences to his family, who he spoke so highly of to me often. May God carry you through your grieving.

Keeping your family in our thoughts and prayers! Mr. Stein was a wonderful teacher, a patient man, and he will be missed!! I had him as a teacher 30+ years ago and my children had the privilege to have him as a teacher as well.

Mr. Stein was one of the greats! A true loss and my heart goes out to his family.

Mr. Stein was my favorite teacher in junior high school.  We talked about F Troop quite a bit.

I'm 44 now but I remember Gary Stein well. He taught 6th and 7th grade math and showed me compassion one day. Another JR High teacher was going to paddle me for a triviallity but MR Stein stepped in and stopped him. I never got that paddling. Rest in peace Gary Stein. Quite a compassionate and kind man.

So very sorry for your loss.  I had his classes in jr high back in the mid 80s and Mr. Stein was one of those teachers that made a difference in the lives of his students.  I believe the guidance and compassion he showed me helped to direct me down the right path and gave me the confidence that i needed. He was a truly great person

I am sorry to hear of Mr. Stein's passing. I pray peace for his family and friends. He was a great educator. I enjoyed learning from him in Jr. High -- he was calm, patient, and a true teacher. He was also a thoughtful man, as he came to support our family at the passing of our mother last year. May God wrap his loved ones in comfort.

Both my daughters had Gary as a teacher.  A true gentleman and great teacher. My sympathies to his family.

Prayers to the family.  Mr. Stein was one of my favorite math teachers even though it was weakest subject. He made math engaging and fun.

Very sorry for your loss. Mr. Stein was my favorite teacher at Waterloo Jr High School. I still have a letter that he wrote to me. He will never be forgotten. RIP

So sorry for your loss. I had Mr Stein as a teacher at Waterloo Junior High School around 35 years ago. He probably hadn't even been teaching that long. He was a great teacher and well liked by many. Thinking of your family.
