Carol was born January 27, 1953 in Belleville, IL, the daughter of Lee I. and Betty J., nee Neumeyer, Barbeau.
Mrs. Kelso was a member of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Freeburg, IL. She was a former member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Carlyle, IL. She was a devoted homemaker, an accomplished seamstress, active in her church, and a volunteer at the Community Kindness Shop in Belleville, IL and for many years, a campground host at Eldon Hazlet State Park in Carlyle, along with her husband, William.
Mrs. Kelso loved camping, boating, reading, science fiction movies and TV shows, and her beloved pets. She rescued many dogs and cats over the years, giving them a loving and safe home.
Mrs. Kelso was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Kelso, whom she married on January 1, 1979 at Peace Lutheran Church in Belleville, IL. He passed away on January 13, 2022. Also preceded in death by her parents, and her beloved dogs.
Surviving are her brothers, Frederick (Mary) Barbeau, Robert (Jane) Barbeau, David (Sheri) Barbeau; sister, Julie (Mike) Quirin; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; and her beloved dog, Sadie.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home, Belleville, IL. There will be a time of visitation prior to the service, from 11:30 A.M.- 1:00 P.M. Reverend Scott Schilbe will officiate.
Mrs. Kelso will be buried alongside her husband at Highland City Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Freeburg, IL, Messiah Lutheran Church in Carlyle, IL, Belleville Area Humane Society or to VITAS Healthcare and Hospice in Fairview Heights, IL.
