Arlene graduated from East St. Louis Lincoln Senior High School in June 1957.
In December 2001, she retired from the United States Postal Service after more than 31 years of service. As a Letter Carrier, she truly enjoyed interacting with people and making friends along her routes.

She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Chesterfield, in Chesterfield, MO where Dr. T.D. Stubblefield is the Pastor-Teacher. Her true passions were serving on the church’s Hospitality Committee and attending Wednesday Bible Study at 12 noon.
Arlene was preceded in death by her loving parents, Elisha Armstrong and Cecelia Armstrong; her devoted husband, Henry Stewart; and two brothers, Richard Armstrong and Melvin Armstrong.
She is survived by her four sons, Darryl (Lenora) Haire of Naperville, IL; Dorman Haire of St. Louis, MO; Berwyn Haire of Duluth, GA; and Kendall Johnson of St. Louis, MO; eight grandchildren, Cicely Haire, Yakim Johnson, Dorman Brandon Haire, Dormeshia Haire, Donte’ Haire, Gaylon Haire, Amber Haire and Berwyn Dallas Haire; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Filer, of St. Charles, MO; one brother, Frederick Armstrong, Sr., of Fairview Heights, IL, one aunt, Marie (Maurice, Sr.) Hurst, of Silver Spring, MD; a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, including Carlton Muhammad, Chandre Filer and Curtis Filer, III; and many friends.
Arlene was very thankful to be a 39-year survivor of breast cancer and loved to participate in the activities hosted by the Susan G. Komen Foundation in St. Louis.
