Alva Clifton Jones

Alva was born June 6, 1933 in Canalou, MO to Orval Sylvester and Floy Mae (Arbuckle) Jones Gruen. They preceded him in death.

He was also preceded in death by his son, Terry Donnell Jones; and siblings, Arlynn Jones and Freda (nee Jones) Smith.

He married Sandra K. Jones on August 14, 1971 in Villa Hills, IL. Together, they shared nearly 54 years of marriage. She survives and resides in Freeburg, IL.

Also surviving are his children, Orval E. (Lilly) Jones of Oklahoma City, OK, Lisa Schmitt of Fenton, MO, Michael Jones of Olney, IL, and Stephanie L. Jones of Belleville, IL; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and his sister, Reba Jones of New Athens, IL.

Years ago, Alva owned and operated Martinizing Dry Cleaners in Belleville, IL and Collinsville, IL. He was considered a pioneer in the industry, as he created the coupon system for their customers.

Alva loved music, both listening and writing his own. He and his wife, Sandy enjoyed many years of vegetable gardening and enjoying the fruits of their labor together.

His greatest joys in life were the births of his beloved children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved his family dearly. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

A private family service will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025 at Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, IL.

A public Celebration of Life will be held at New Athens Methodist Church on Saturday, April 26, 2025 from 11:00 A.M.- 3:00 P.M.

Memorial donations in Alva’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
