William "Bill" Hines Baker of Houston, Texas, was born July 20, 1937, and passed away January 31, 2024, in Houston at the Gardens of Bellaire. Bill's family deeply thanks the Gardens and Blue Bonnet Palliative Care for their loving care and support.
Bill was a graduate of Lamar High School in Houston and the University of Oklahoma. Bill was an English teacher and head of the English department at Trinity Preparatory School in Winter Park, Florida, for 15 years, and taught English at Lone Star Community College in Tomball upon his return to Houston. Bill learned to play the card game bridge from his mother, Kathryn McLaughlin Baker, and went on to become a master player, president of the local bridge club, and teach lessons. Bill was an avid gardener.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Logan Baker, Sr. and Kathryn Elizabeth McLaughlin, and his brother, Warren Logan Baker, Jr.. Bill is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Altenburger; daughter Amy Baker Caldwell, husband David, grandchildren Emily, Isabelle and David Logan; and by his son, Kenneth McLaughlin Baker, and granddaughter Gabrielle.
A graveside ceremony will be held Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at 10am at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery. Bill will be buried near his parents.
