Ruth Lenora Curtis Beck, 92, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 4, 2016. Born to Ruth Anne Wilson Curtis and Louis Talmage Curtis, Sr., December 8, 1923 on their farm in Bellaire, TX. Ruth was raised in Bellaire and lived in Houston most of her life. She graduated from San Jacinto High School and briefly attended the University of Texas before returning home to help her parents, where she found work as a secretary for Continental Oil Company. Ruth married her beloved husband of 61 years, Joseph Dale Beck on March 10, 1949.
Ruth was a full time wife and mother devoted to caring for Dale and their children. The family moved with Dale’s job to El Campo, Corpus Christi and Charlotte, NC before finally settling in Houston. They lived in the Sharpstown area less than a mile from her family’s farm so she could care for her elderly parents. Ruth kept busy serving as a Cub Scout den mother, teaching Sunday school and working with Mothers Day Out. A devout Christian, Ruth was an active member of Bellaire Presbyterian Church (now ChristChurch Presbyterian) for most of her life and was honored during the church’s diamond jubilee in 1994. She cooked Wednesday night dinners at the church, volunteered with the Sunshine Shop and helped deliver Meals on Wheels. She also enjoyed studying her bible, cooking, sewing, crocheting, growing African violets and solving crossword puzzles.
Ruth is survived by her two sons, Kenneth and wife Beverly Beck, David Beck; her daughter, Susan and husband Barry Rogers; grandchildren Cheryl Loth, Kristy Allen, Jesse Rogers and Sarah Rogers; great-grandson, William Travis Allen; and her brother Robert W. Curtis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Dale Beck; parents Ruth Anne and Louis T. Curtis, Sr.; her brother Louis T. Curtis, Jr. and sisters Virginia Husband and Betty Holland.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 13, 2016 at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home, 6700 Ferris St. Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 14, 2016 at South Park Cemetery in Pearland, TX., followed by a Memorial Service at 12:00 Noon at ChristChurch Presbyterian, 5001 Bellaire Blvd. Bellaire, TX 77401 with a reception following.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org), the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) and ChristChurch Presbyterian of Bellaire, TX.
