Ronald Henry Lewis, a dedicated attorney and Vietnam War veteran, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025, at the age of 78. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, on March 6, 1946, to Regina Lewis, Ronald's life was marked by service to his country and community.
Ronald answered the call of duty, serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1968. Upon his return, he pursued higher education, graduating from Florissant Valley Junior College in 1969 and received his undergrad from Cornell University in 1975. Driven by a passion for justice, Ronald earned his law degree from Texas Southern University School of Law in 1979.
He established his legal practice in Houston, Texas, where he focused on criminal defense law. Ronald was a tireless advocate for his clients, often serving those from lower-income and over-policed communities. His commitment to justice extended beyond the courtroom, as he actively participated in Mickey Leland's political campaign in Houston.
A man of faith, Ronald was a member of Mount Avery Missionary Baptist Church, where his mother, Regina Lewis, served as church clerk for 40 years under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Charles J. Brown Senior.
Ronald's legacy of love and dedication lives on through his children, Natasha and Brandon Lewis, his stepson, Le'Andre Douglas, and his grandchildren Josiah Douglas and Avery Lewis. He is also remembered by his wife, Jameter Lewis, whom he met in 1989 and dedicated his love and commitment to her June 12, 1999 where he remained a loyal, loving, and faithful husband until his passing.
He is preceded in death By his mother Regina Tyler, stepfather Mitchell Tyler, and brother Carlton Tyler.
Though the song of Ronald Henry Lewis's life has ended, the melody of his kindness, service, and unwavering love and support will resonate in the hearts of those he touched for years to come.
A memorial service for Ronald will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home, 4525 Bissonnet Street, Bellaire, Texas. Following the memorial service will be an inurnment at 12:30 PM at Houston National Cemetery.
