Robert C. Pryor

Robert Clifford Pryor died on July 13, 2012 at the Vitas Hospice Care in The Woodlands. He was born on November 9, 1920 in Philadelphia, PA. to Mary and Walter Pryor. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on February 27, 1941 and served until October 10, 1945 in the 2nd Armored Division “Hell On Wheels” at Fort Benning, Georgia. He trained under the famed General George Patton. He was with the 14th Field Artillery and when the 92nd Armored Field Artillery was formed from members of the 14th and 78th he joined B Btry of the 92nd. After attending classes at Fort Knox, KY. to learn Morse Code, he returned to Fort Benning and was the radio operator throughout the rest of his career becoming Staff Sergeant. He participated in the Tennessee and Louisiana Maneuvers, the D Day landing at the Normandy Beaches, and the Battle of the Bulge. He was also a member of the Honor Guard at the Potsdam Conference with the three leaders of Churchill, Stalin and Roosevelt. He was awarded the Bronze Star and other meritorious commendations as well as being named the Honorary Sergeant Major of the 92nd AFA.

As a charter member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel parish, he was active in their various organizations for over 20 years. Moving to the Sharps town area where he owned the Braeburn Television Sales & Service Company and became a member of St. Francis de Sales Church serving as usher at the Saturday evening mass. He sold his business and moved to The Woodlands and was a member of Sts. Simon & Jude Parish. His wife, Peggy and he were honored by Sts. Simon & Jude in February of this year as the longest married couple of nearly 65 years.

He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree and the Order of the Alhambra, Caravan #61 holding several offices including the Grand Commander. He was a member of the 2nd Armored Division Association holding the Offices of Sec /Treas. President, Chairman of the Board and finally Historian.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy, daughter, Mary Kay Ellis and husband Steve, granddaughters, Stephanie Moore and husband Stacey, Allison Miller and husband Dale, four great grand children, Austin and Preston Moore, Danielle and Nicole Miller; Sister, Betty Hall and Brother Dick and wife Barbara and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Frank Ahr, John Artz, Mike Koen, Paul Schmitt, Jack Slattery, and George Wood. Honorary pallbearers Don Evans, Gus Gullo and Eddie Troy.

Services: Visitation at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 8200 Roos Road, Houston at 4: oopm and Rosary at 5:00pm on Monday July 16, 2012. Mass of Christian Burial at Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, 26777 Glen Loch, The Woodlands at 11:30am on Tuesday, July 17, 2012. Rite of Committal will follow at Houston National Cemetery.
