Onezine Joe Young of Crosby, TX passed away at home on August 28, following a lengthy illness, with his wife, Judy, at his side. Joe was born on September 27, 1935 in Palmetto, LA to Ulysse Young and Lula Moreau Young. He was the seventh child born to his mother (Ebrum Richard, Lucy Richard Poole, Hilery Richard, Nathalie Richard Papatonis, Eldon Young, Burney Young, Joe Young, Edward Young).
Joe grew up in the Acadiana area of Louisiana and enjoyed traveling back there to visit family and friends, and experience Cajun cooking, dancing and music. Joe joined the Air Force in 1956 and trained in the Midwest area of the U.S. Some of his favorite postings were Madison, Wisconsin, Newburgh, New York and Fairbanks, Alaska. While stationed in Fairbanks, Joe spent his off hours attending classes at the University of Alaska.
After completing his four-year stint in the Air Force in 1960, Joe returned to Louisiana and attended classes at LSU in Baton Rouge. He met his first wife, Virginia Heap, during that time. They soon married and moved to Houston, TX. Joe began working at The Upjohn Chemical Company in Laporte, TX, and remained at the facility through its transition to Dow Chemical. Joe and Virginia had three children. Elizabeth "Lisa" Young Stolier (Kim Stolier), Christopher Mark Young (Paola) and Joel Brent Young (Cleo). Even though Joe and Virginia eventually divorced, they remained friends through the time of her death.
Good fortune allowed Joe to marry his lovely wife, Judith Riley Young in 2003, where he gained a loving bonus family in Judy's three children, Lori (Rich), Natasha, and Sean. He and Judy began a 19-year wedded journey that included travel to wonderful international destinations like England, Germany, Nova Scotia, as well as European river cruises, and Caribbean Sea cruises. They also enjoyed a return trip to Alaska, where Joe was able to experience the area he so enjoyed and marvel at the changes since his Air Force days. Lisa, Mark and Joel will be forever grateful for the companionship and enjoyment that Judy has added to their dad's later years, along with her kind, loving and compassionate care.
Joe was a man of many talents. He enjoyed investing in the stock market and was interested in self-improvement and life-long learning. He was a real estate entrepreneur and fashioned a new career path in his later years by owning and improving properties for sale and rental. He had a love of cars, whether old or new, and built several reproductions of vintage roadsters, such as the 1927 Bugatti and 1936 Mercedes Benz. Years ago, Joe enjoyed driving his beautiful, white vintage 1970 Jaguar XKE. He and Judy own a BMW convertible, and joined a local BMW Club. They socialized and traveled with the group on many fun-filled road trip weekends.
Additionally, they gathered frequently with a wonderful circle of Judy's friends, attending potlucks and social events. Joe's niece, DeeDee Hunter, was a frequent favorite companion; stopping by often to spend time in lively conversation and family gatherings. DeeDee also served as Joe and Judy's technical expert for their laptop and cell phones, which they have truly appreciated. Nephew, Eddie Richard (Zaida), and niece, Leigh Ann Richard, were also very attentive to their "Uncle Nim," coming to the rescue with much needed assistance at a moment's notice. Joe was always delighted to receive invitations and be included in their special family gatherings. Visits with family and friends were enjoyable for him throughout his life, especially the telling and re-telling of family stories from the old days.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents Ulysse and Lula, his former wives, Virginia and Merlene, his siblings Ebrum, Lucy, Hilery, Nathalie, Burney and Edward. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Eldon and Pam Young, and his sister-in-law, Judy Young (Burney). Additionally, he leaves behind his wife, children, and grandchildren Jacob Stolier (Melissa), Mitchell Stolier (Becky), Robin Stolier, Felicia Young, Moriah Rae Marks (Kenneth), Sarah Rose Young, Riley Riskin, Josie Riskin, Ruby Riskin, Achilles Riley, Kai Krugly and Marley Krugly, as well as great-grandchildren Rebekah Stolier, Braygen Marks, Kaislee Marks, Elowen Marks, Jayden Whatley, Ryleigh Whatley, Keegan Whatley and Raymond O'Connor. Joe was loved and cherished by his family, and will be truly missed. Special thanks are extended to his caregiver, Diane Pate, and the kind, compassionate staff of Silverado Hospice.
