Michael E. McCourt, 71, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on March 11, 2012. He was born August 17, 1940, in Camden, New Jersey, the son of late Frances and Sarah McCourt and was the oldest of four siblings.
Michael graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Upsala College in 1962. He then joined the United States Navy where he graduated from Officer Candidate School and served as Lieutenant (junior grade) until March 1969. Upon discharge, he married Linda Kaye Orin of Uhrichsville, Ohio to whom he was married for 25 years. After beginning his professional career in Columbus, Ohio, he and his family moved to Houston, Texas, where he worked in the oil and gas industry, for 26 years. He retired in 1994, to devote his time to his passions - reading and fishing in Galveston, Texas.
Michael was a loving and devoted father and will be deeply missed. He instilled in his children a passion for knowledge, a love of reading and a deep appreciation of laughter and family. He is survived by his three loving daughters and sons-in-law, Carrie and Robert Jones of Houston, Texas; Melissa and David Migl of Austin, Texas; Amanda and Micah Hurt, of Houston, Texas, and by his six grandchildren, Greyson and Griffin Jones; Clayton Migl; Sadie, Haley and Sloane Hurt; as well as his siblings, David, Terrance and Margie McCourt.
A private memorial event will be held for family members.
