Mary Jean Terence Ray passed away December 17th, 2019. Jean was born June 12, 1928, at St. Joseph Hospital to Charles and Marietta Terence and was a native Houstonian. She graduated from St. Agnes Academy as salutatorian of her class and attended the University of Houston where she was a member of Pi Lambda Chi sorority. Through most of her life she taught Sunday School, first at Riverside Baptist Church from beginner children to intermediate girls’ classes, then later at Willow Meadows Baptist Church, where she taught pre-kindergarten Sunday School for 25 years. A highlight at this church was teaching English to her International class students for over 30 years. She hoped that by teaching she would bring people to accept Jesus as their Savior.
Jean was active in many organizations over the years, from working in the PTO to taking part in her children’s activities, including Boy Scouts and Little League baseball.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Steve L. Ray, and her son Tom Ray. She is survived by her sons Gary Ray and Tim Ray, grandsons Tommy Ray and wife Kristin, Jacob Ray and wife Mallorie; great grandchildren Haylee Ray, Rylee Ray, Liam Ray, and Pippa Ray; sister Marilyn Frank and brother-in-law George Frank; aunt, Betty Luehr and husband Charles McCarver, many nieces and nephews, as well as many neighborhood and church friends. She was truly a blessing to others.
Visitation will be on Sunday, December 22nd from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home, 4525 Bissonnet, Bellaire, Texas. Funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Monday December 23rd, at Willow Meadows Baptist Church, 4300 West Bellfort. Burial will follow at 12:00 pm at Forest Park Westheimer, 12800 Westheimer Road. Donations in her memory may be made to Willow Meadows Baptist Church mission fund.
