Mamie Carolyn (Bailey) Wilson exchanged her temporary earthly home for her eternal heavenly home on November 29, 2017 to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She passed from this life to the next at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas. Judging by her energy and constant creative activity, no one could ever believe her age. She was 82 years, 8 months, and 21 days old at her passing.
Carolyn was born in Laurel, MS on March 8, 1935 to Fred Lamar Bailey and Loy Loper Bailey. She graduated from Gardiner High School in Laurel and Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, MS. Following a blind date set up by two mothers and her pastor’s wife, Carolyn married Marion (Jackson) Wilson of Smith County MS on December 19, 1954. Three children followed… David Lamar, Sharon Catherine and Angela Kaa. Jack and Carolyn shared 63 happy years of marriage.
Members of Westbury Baptist Church in Houston, Carolyn and Jack were also honorary members of Mountain View Fellowship in Strasburg, CO, pastored by her son-in-law Donn Headley. She was a varied and constant crafter and a gifted cook and caterer, making every event extra special with her unique and creative touch. Her knees were calloused from hours and years of prayer for her family, especially David and Angie (because Sharon was the good one). She will always be remembered for her Southern Belle ways and her fun-loving, firecracker personality.
Carolyn was preceded in death by – and is now rejoicing with – grandson Paden Headley, parents Fred and Loy Bailey, son David, and beloved Aunt Epsy Johnson. She is survived by her husband Jack of Houston, daughters Sharon (Dave) Messersmith of Houston and Angie (Donn) Headley of Strasburg, CO, brothers Kenneth Lamar Bailey (Jaycelyn) of Hattiesburg, MS, Hubert Ronald Bailey (Carmen) of Laurel, MS, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her spoiled and much-loved poodles Greta and Henry. We all love you so much, Mimi, and you will always be in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, Carolyn would have loved to know that donations were made to the building fund of Mountain View Fellowship in Strasburg, Colorado, where they have set up a Carolyn Wilson Memorial Fund.
