Linda was born Linda Lee Williams in Hapeville, Georgia, outside Atlanta, on October 29, 1951. Linda was the daughter of Walter and Rosa Lee Williams. She lived and worked for various law firms in Atlanta until she moved to Houston, Texas, in 1976.
Linda’s childhood role model was the character Della Street on the Perry Mason TV show. Her early admiration for solving mysteries helped advance her career in law, which she continued until the birth of her first daughter, Jessica. Linda worked in the home until shortly after the birth of her second child, Monica.
Returning to work full time as a paralegal, Linda worked for the law firm of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer, and Feld for 14 years. She then transitioned to the in-house legal departments for various oil and gas firms, including Citgo, Baker Hughes, and Transocean.
Skillfully balancing work and family commitments, Linda was a youth advisor for Wise BBG and Tikvah BBG during Jessica and Monica’s tenure in the BBYO youth group. In this capacity, she opened her heart and her home to countless Jewish teens, forging lifelong bonds with many of them over the years.
Linda was well known for her remarkable organizational skills. She was often looked to for guidance, as everything from her spice rack to her entire home to friends’ and family members’ homes, was organized in impeccable detail. Linda was also incredibly funny with a penchant for silliness and was an absolute joy to be around. She loved to sing, dance, crack jokes and play games.
Anyone who knew Linda described her as caring, helpful, or generous; most people described her as all three. She was beautiful both inside and out. If anyone ever needed assistance or support of any kind, Linda was the first in line to help. She was often a helper for various home improvement projects. Her favorite thing to do was take care of her family and friends, and her favorite place to do it was in her home. Linda was always happiest when surrounded by family and friends…and dogs.
Linda’s hobbies included cooking, flower arranging, taking long, scenic road trips… and especially spoiling her dogs Scruffy, Daisy and Sadie and grand-dogs Ellie, Roxy and Ruby.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, Jimmy and Bobby Williams, and her father-in-law Eugene Louis Schatz.
Linda is survived by her husband, Gary Walter Schatz, two daughters, Monica Alyse Silverman and Jessica Silverman McDunn, as well as her son-in-law, Dustin Richard McDunn.
A memorial will be held at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home at 4525 Bissonnet St. in Bellaire, Texas. The service will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will be followed by a light lunch reception.
In lieu of flowers, Linda’s family asks that anyone wishing to honor her memory may donate to the Houston Humane Society, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the Council on Recovery, or any charity of your choice.
