Katherine Louise Lehmann Cook, age 92, passed away in Houston, Texas on May 29, 2012. She was born in Galveston, Texas on December 21, 1919 to Elizabeth and William L. Lehmann. She is preceded in death by her husband, Russell Louis Cook, and her sisters Alma Barnett, Ethyl Schumann and Thelma Harris. She is survived by her son, Russell Louis Cook, Jr., and wife, Nancy, her daughter, Judy Cook Adams and husband, George, and her brother William Lehmann and wife, Sammie, of Texas City, Texas. She is also survived by grandchildren, Courtney Cook French, Scott Cook, Davis Adams, and Michael Adams and great-grandchildren Jackson, Charlie, Harris, and William Adams, William and Catherine French, and Selah Adams and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Katherine grew up in Galveston and attended Ball High School graduating at age 16 in 1936. She married Russell on May 27, 1942 and lived for a time in San Diego, California during WW II. After returning to Texas with Russell, she lived in Texas City for a short time before moving to La Marque where she lived for more than 50 years. She was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in La Marque where she served the church in many ways including church secretary. She moved to Houston in 2005 to the Terrace at West University Place where she led an active and independent life with family and friends.
In addition to her church work Katherine worked for many years for UTMB in Galveston where she served as administrative assistant to administrators and departments. Katherine held many other jobs during her life including working as the secretary to the commanding general at the Galveston airbase and for the American Red Cross during WW II.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Faith Lutheran Church, 4600 Bellaire Blvd, Bellaire, Texas with burial at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock following the funeral. A visitation will be held prior to the funeral service at the church beginning at 9 am with the funeral service beginning at 10 am. Following the burial, a reception will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2024 12th Avenue, La Marque, Texas.
Pall bearers and honorary pall bearers are her nephews Paul Schumann, Phil Cook, Mickey Cook, Andrew Cook, Doug Smith, Dennis Cook, Allen Lehmann, David Harris, and Bobby Cook and her grandsons Scott Cook, Davis Adams and Michael Adams.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Faith House, a ministry of Faith Lutheran Church providing low-cost housing to patients visiting Houston’s Medical Center (4600 Bellaire Blvd., Bellaire, TX 77401) or to the charity of your choice.
