Joseph Richard Easley was born August 24, 1922 on a farm in Armstrong County, PA. The family moved into Ford City, PA in early 1928. Joseph graduated from St. Mary’s Grade School in 1937 and Ford City High School in 1941. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942 and assigned to the Station Hospital Medical Detachment at Camp Gordon, GA where he spent most of his services as an X-Ray technician. In early 1945, he spent 6 months at the Medical Supply School in St. Louis, MO. and then returned to Camp Gordon, GA and was discharged from the U.S. Army Nov. 1945. He entered St. Louis University in January 1946 and was graduated in Feb 1950 with a B.S. in Zoology. He spent his working career in the health care equipment business retiring in January 1985 from American Sterilizer.
Joseph married Mary Ann Giraffa in August 1948 in ST. Louis, MO and they have three children Joanna Morgan, Steven J. Easley and Michael J. Easley. Joanna resides in Houston, TX; Steven in Lake Oswego, OR and Michael in Brentwood, TN. The grandchildren are: John Paul Morgan, Eric Easley, Evan Easley, Johanna Easley, Jessie Easley, Devin Easley and Sarah Easley. Three great-granddaughters: Ryanne, Emma and Elly.
Since retirement in January 1986, he has volunteered for 24 years at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Houston, TX obtaining over 8444 hours of service. He has been the Commander of the Monsignor Kirwin Catholic War Veterans Post 526 since 1990 and has served on many committees at the VAMC. He also is a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 29th at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home, 6700 Ferris Street. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 30th at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 10330 Hillcroft. The Rite of Committal will follow at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
