Jane Dyer Lange

From an early age, Jane’s voracious curiosity was clear. She could never get enough books! Before she read on her own, we enjoyed long read aloud sessions about wide-ranging topics. From dinosaurs to ancient civilizations, Jane loved to learn. She spent countless happy hours learning about history.

She was also wonderfully creative. Jane was creative in everything she did. One of Jane’s great passions was theater. Her first time in an audience was for a production of Hamlet when she was only six weeks old. She spent many happy hours watching plays, especially at the theater barn for Shakespeare at Winedale. When she got to middle school, Jane found a place and a community with the wonderful theater program at Tanglewood Middle School. She hoped to combine that interest in history with her passion for theater to become a dramaturg. Jane loved being part of the communities that come together to make plays.

But Jane’s superpower was her kindness. Jane cared deeply about how people were treated. Those who knew her loved her unique perspective on the world and her devotion to friendship. Her middle school honored her with the DAR Youth Citizenship Award. In acts small and large, throughout her life, Jane wanted to treat everyone with dignity, kindness, and care.

To all our dear friends, please continue to write, create, make art, music, and theater. The arts are a way to find the light even in our darkest hours. Bring Jane forward with you in your acts of creativity and kindness and your travels. She would love that.
