He was born in Magnolia, Arkansas on July 4, 1931 to Philip Dees and Mattie Paschal Dees. He grew up in Magnolia, and attended Southern Arkansas University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 1953.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. During his period of service, he spent one year in Japan as part of the occupying force after WWII.
He spent the first part of his career in sales with Roerig Div Pfizer, Inc. Over the course of that career, he and his family lived in Waco, Texas, in Houston, Texas, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was named ‘Man of the Year’ with Roerig in 1969.
Upon retiring from Roerig, he started Accord Medical, a medical equipment company servicing the Dallas Ft. Worth, Texas area; retiring again at age 82.
He is survived by daughters, Cynthia Creager and her husband Robert Creager, Beverly Moore and her husband Dr. David Moore, Sharon Dees and her husband Johnny Hobbs. He is preceded in death by his son Lawrence Dees. He is also survived by his grandchildren Shawn Paul, Keith Moore and Katherine Moore, by his beloved brother Joe Dees, and nieces Margery Dupre, Lavona Perry and Jana Davis, and nephew Andy Dees.
