James “Bubba” Louis Abell, Jr. d. February 24, 2014, remembered with love and greatly missed by his family, Mary Lyons Abell his wife of 48 years, daughter Lisa Abell Thompson and husband Mark, granddaughters Asher Elizabeth and Catherine Jane of Kerrville, TX and sisters Jane Marie Abell, OP, and Barbara Abell of Houston. Jim was born October 19, 1943 in Shreveport, LA to James and Marie Abell, grew up in West University Place, TX, attended St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School, graduated from St. Thomas High School. Jim served in the United States Navy during Vietnam and continued in the Naval Reserves. For many years he was a dedicated volunteer fireman in the West University Place Volunteer Fire Department. Jim was employed at Sterling Electronics as General Manager of the Commercial Sound Division. In 1996 he started his own successful home repair/improvement contracting business. Jim is remembered by loving family, neighbors, clients and their children as a generous and wise mentor and friend.
The family would like to thank the St. Luke’s Hospital 20th Floor Cancer Care Nursing Staff and Houston Hospice for their loving treatment and comfort during his last days.
Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Friday, February 28, 2014 at St. Vincent de Paul Church 6800 Buffalo Speedway, Houston, TX 77025.
Pallbearers are Robert Polinski, Dennis Stanek, Bob Harper, Alb Butzke, Bob Dzik, Chuck Buschardt, Jerry Tipps, and Bobby Esteb.
In lieu of the usual remembrances, donations may be made to Dominican Sisters Retirement Fund, 6501 Almeda Road, Houston, TX 77021.
