Henry Joseph Kuntz, 96, was welcomed into our Lord’s house on June 19, 2018. He was born in New Orleans in 1921 and made Houston his home in 1949. There he raised six children with his wife Rosemary Kinler Kuntz whom he wed in 1943.
Henry served in World War II, having been recruited by the United States Navy in 1944. He was assigned to the crew of the USS Stern (Destroyer Escort 187) and served convoy missions throughout the Atlantic and Pacific regions. He moved to Houston after the war, finding sustainable employment in the printing industry.
Henry was one of the early and long-time parishioners of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Throughout the years he served in numerous volunteer roles in support of the parish. He enjoyed attending daily mass.
One of Henry’s most lasting and well-known attributes was his strong faith in God. He led a Christian life by example through prayer and almsgiving. Many family members lovingly referred to him as “Pope Henry.”
Henry is preceded in death by his wife , Rosemary Kinler Kuntz; brothers, Phillip and Warren and sister, Evelyn Delhom. He is survived by his children Henry J. Kuntz, Jr. (partner, Martha), David M. Kuntz, John S. Kuntz (spouse, Jacque Braziel), Mary Mutz (spouse, Ray), Celeste R. Kuntz and Paul V. Kuntz (spouse, Ilianna). He also is survived by numerous grandchildren: Ellery Kuntz, Jennifer Mueller (spouse, Tim), Christopher Mutz (spouse, Colleen )and Aria R. Kuntz.
Viewing and Rosary on June 21, 2018 between 6:00 and 8:00 PM at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home, 4525 Bissonnet St., Bellaire, TX 77401. Rosary and Chaplet of Divine Mercy to commence at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian burial on June 22, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 6921 Chetwood Dr., Houston, TX 77081. Entombment on June 23, 2018 at 12:30 PM at Holy Cross Cemetery, 3502 N. Main St., Houston TX 77009.
