Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on December 1st, 1947, he and his wife of 51 years, Marsha, lived in the Houston, Texas and Missouri City, Texas areas for many years to raise their children before retiring to his version of Heaven, Sea Isle in Galveston, Texas. Charley was a born-again Christian. He and his wife were members of the First Baptist Church of Houston for over 40 years. He had a heart for service and helping anyone in any way needed. He spent a large portion of his career as an operations officer at Capital Bank in Jacinto City, Texas, and lead the operations side of the other banks he helped run, while being instrumental in opening new banks across the country. After his retirement, Charley was able to continue some of his favorite hobbies like fishing, attending car auctions, watching sports, and getting great bargains. He loved spending time in fellowship with family and friends, whether in Houston or enjoying the water in Galveston, Texas or in Panama City Beach, Florida, where his parents retired. He also enjoyed his service to the Sea Isle Property Owners Association and teaching others about banking throughout the years.
Charley is survived by his wife Marsha and his mother-in-law, Patsy Kelly, of Galveston, Texas; his son Charles (Chuck) of Missouri City, Texas; his daughter Kelly and her husband Chad of Marietta, Georgia; his brothers and sisters-in-law Brian and Sandy of Joplin, Missouri; Mike of Kearney, Missouri and Deni of Kearney, Missouri. He has four beloved grandchildren: Cameron Brookins, Guinevere Jones-Soule, Colby Gross, and Cooper Gross. His dear nieces and their spouses are Nicki and Aaron Marsters, Katie and Jason Getz, Diana and Adam Miller, and Stacy West. He is also survived by his dear great-nieces and great-nephews: Abigail, Gavin, Elisa, Annsley, Landon, Avery, and Caroline Rose as well as many beloved cousins across the country. Charley’s death was preceded by that of his beloved parents, Ernest and Nell Jones, his father-in-law, Joe Kelly, and his great-niece, Adeline.
