Emma Genevieve McEvoy Newhouse passed away peacefully on May 12, 2016, in Houston, Texas. She was born December 4, 1937, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to W. Basil and Helen Cynthia McEvoy. She was raised in Tulsa. On November 18, 1961, she married the luckiest man in the world, Tom Newhouse. They moved to Houston, Texas, in 1966. Emma is preceded in death by her parents and sisters Helen Margaret Fairlie and Mary Esther Bingman. Emma is survived by her husband, her three sons: Bob and wife, Pegi; Brian and wife, Diana; and Michael; her three grandchildren: Isabel, Thomas and Elizabeth; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Emma was a dedicated wife and mom and grandmother (Mimi). She worked at Strake Jesuit College Prep when her sons were students there. She was on staff as spiritual director at the Cenacle Retreat House for many years. She relished time with her family and friends, being at “her” lake, spiritual groups (including Theresians), travel to see relatives, playing bridge and reading.
Wake service will be 5 to 7PM on Friday, May 20th at Earthman Funeral Home, 6700 Ferris St., Bellaire, Texas 77401. Memorial Mass will be 10AM on Saturday, May 21st at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Rd., Houston, Texas 77056. Light lunch to follow in the Parish hall.
