Elsa Felsen

Elsa Felsen, 85, of Houston, TX passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children on October 6th at her home. She was born on April 13, 1938, to Leo and Flora Fleischmann. Elsa was the last Jewish child to be born in her hometown of Prichsenstadt, Germany where the Fleischmann family had lived for nearly 200 years. She arrived in Houston, TX in June,1939 with her parents and sister, Hannah, refugees from the Holocaust.

Elsa was a graduate of San Jacinto High School. She was the owner of Elsa’s Shoppe, an antique store and volunteered at the Guild Shop for 40 years. In 1998, Elsa received a liver transplant extending her life these 25 years. Elsa loved her family and had many friends with whom she enjoyed dining out and playing poker; she also enjoyed playing the slot machines when given the chance. Elsa saw or spoke with her sister Hannah daily who said “she had a heart of gold” and will be sorely missed.

Elsa was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 56 years, Martin Felsen. She is survived by her son, Howard Felsen, daughter, Lisa Campbell (Travis III), grandchildren Travis IV, Chloe, and Ian Campbell, sister, Hannah Cweren, nephew Melvin Cweren (Susie), nieces Helene Cweren (Paul Goldstein) and Marilyn Tolleson (James) as well as great nieces and nephews Elana and Leah Goldstein, Caroline and Alex Cweren.

Funeral services will be held at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive on Tuesday, October 10th at 11 am. The family will be gathering after services at the home of Melvin and Susie Cweren where friends are welcome to stop by and pay their respects.
