She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Dr. Weldon A Price, Sr., and Virginia S. Price, her beloved sister, Marilyn Spicer (Anthony), and her first husband, Joseph C. West.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Martin E. Gerber, her two daughters, Karen West and Marilyn Gerber; her grandson, Connor Gerber; her brother, Weldon “Bo” Price (Joanie); and her nephews, Andrew Spicer and Jon Price (Laura). Her husband often referred to her as a “social butterfly,” and as such, she has countless friends who are also mourning her loss.
Never one to miss an opportunity to lead she rose to leadership positions throughout her life in the Houston Paralegal Association, Meisterwood Homeowners’ Association, and as a Panel 59 Delegate. After retiring, Betsy filled her time with water aerobics at the YMCA, supporting the Houston Texans and Astros, and the sports teams of her alma mater, Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). She also stayed busy with service work throughout Houston and surrounding areas.
Betsy was most proud of her time as a Precinct Election Worker, and she believed strongly in voting in each election, and getting involved in and supporting the things that matter to you. Her daughters learned strength and independence while watching her take on their school district (and win) and watching how she engaged in the organizations she was a part of, and they will be forever grateful for the example she set.
Betsy was a beloved mother, sister, friend, and mentor. If you would like to honor her with a donation, please support the Democrat candidate of your choice or Planned Parenthood, two of the causes she supported loudly and proudly during her life. She would also appreciate that those who love her take the time to vote, regardless of party.
