Edward Joseph Glaser joined our heavenly father on January 1, 2018 surrounded by family. He was born on July 24, 1923 in Houston, Texas. He graduated from St. Thomas High School and attended the University of Houston for one year where he completed 700 hours of Aviation Mechanics School. He then volunteered for service in the Navy from November 18, 1942 until he was honorably discharged on March 8, 1946. He served as an Aviation Machinist Mate 2c on an aircraft carrier, the U.S.S. Pointe Cruz.
He began learning the carpentry trade while in high school, working summers with his father and helping with projects at his home. He met his future wife, Catherine Drew, through the Rosarian’s Club in Houston and they married and had 8 children together. They became active members of St. Michael’s parish serving in a variety of capacities over the years. Ed worked in a variety of construction jobs gaining great experience and eventually worked as a master carpenter for Bellow’s Construction Company for over 20 years until retirement in 1989. He enjoyed training many apprentices that were sent his way. One of his early projects in 1951 was building the house that the family grew up in. It was added onto and remodeled many times over the years. He was also an avid gardener growing tomatoes and strawberries for the family consumption with other crops that varied each year. He loved growing roses and other flowering plants. After retirement he served at weekly masses at St. Michaels’s and continued with gardening. Often he would give excess produce to the local food bank. He worked on various projects at all of his children’s houses and built a great number of pieces of furniture for his children, which are still in use today.
He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Agnes Glaser, his ex-wife Catherine Glaser Tarte, his siblings Genevieve Glaser, Frances Glaser, Cecelia Everett, Tom Glaser and Anthony Glaser and his son Edward J Glaser Jr. He is survived by his sisters-in-law Glorine Glaser and Anne Glaser; and his children: Charlotte Pippin and husband John, Madeleine Redlien and husband Roger, Carolyn Stachey, Marilyn Bishkin and husband Steve, Helen Marshall, James Glaser and wife Sally, and Patricia Glaser-Navarro and husband David. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Charles Pippin and wife Tasha, Michelle Pippin-Reagh and husband Chad, Christina Festerling and husband Dennis, Jeremy Pippin and wife Molly, Erin Anweiler and husband Eric, Diana Caldarella and husband Joseph, Catherine Redlien, Amanda Redlien, Jason Angros and wife Eva, Bryan Stachey, Zachary Bishkin, Joshua Marshall and wife Angela, Ashley Selby and husband Jonathan, Lauren Glaser, and Nicole Navarro, and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
