I was employed at Robin Guitars and Rockin  Robin back in the 80's. I've just learned about Davids passing and I am saddened by that. He was a great guy always busy.  My condolences to his family and friends.

I didn't know you personally, but I knew your work.  You made several guitar pickups for me that brought a lot of joy!   You made the world a better place!  Thanks!

I texted my musician brother today that my friend David Wintz had died. This is what he texted back....

"Oh, Lucy, he was an icon. Sixty nine years old is a pretty typical span for rockers....the guitar shop has been at that location for 50 years it seems. Very sorry to learn this. And strokes at 69 are not necessarily tragic. I admit I didn't always take care of myself but somehow have dodged the inevitable for so many of my friends...death before 70. Somewhere in our Christian Bible it refers to 70...or three score and 10 as being the actual length of a man's life. It's pretty accurate considering it was written over 2000 years ago...yet I am sad to learn of the death of this pioneer in Houston"

Personally I'll remember him for his high intelligence, creativity and personal style - whatever he wore looked cool. The way he talked was cool.  In the Webster's dictionary next to the definition of cool, you'll probably see a picture of Dave Wintz.

Dave was amazing. I was fortunate enough to attend one of the Robin reunions he held years ago. It sure was fun. We kept in touch over the years and he was always supportive and encouraging. Just an amazing man. Thank you so much for the great memories and all the beautiful guitars!

Dave was a good friend of mine.
We both learned guitar from Dale Mullins in the 1960’s.
I remember how happy he was when I sold him my Sheraton.
Dave was one of two non-relatives to visit me in France – and he came twice.  
I missed his wedding (which would have been the third time) due to a car breakdown which I regret to this day.

Dave was a good man.
As he said to me about his Robin Guitars (I have one), he was: “As good as any and better than most.”
I wish he was still with us here.
As I am 100% certain there is plenty of room for all of us, I’ll see him later when I get there.

David and I were friends from the age of six. We saw the Beatles together, we rode our stingray bikes around Bunker Hill, we learned the guitar and played in bands together, we even played a Bach duet for Mel Bay at the Rice Hotel when we were 13. I have so many great memories of David. Just recently, David and I were planning to see Justin Hayward at the Heights Theatre but he wasn’t able to go as it turned out. I will miss David. I met Dave through Chris Smith and fishing. We enjoyed many delightful hours out in the Gulf stalking  El Gran Pez—the big fish. I think we ended up with more laughs, empty beverage containers, and funny stories than fish, but the memories are precious. Dave had a specific procedure for everything which always made for a safe and tidy voyage. He seemed a very happy fellow back then and I’ll never forget his confident smile. 
Rise up early, Dave, they’re waiting to see what we got for bait. Fish on…and keep your line wet. -Doug

David & I were friends since we were 16, 1969. He was in my boyfriend's band, Lorian. We were all reading The Hobbit so...they wrote their own music, practiced in a rented garage apt. garage, they did the acoustics themselves, played for proms. Mike & Rick Huey, Spencer Clark, Craig Geysler & David Wintz. We all practiced TM, swam at the rice wells on weekends, pool after school, ate veges plate at Leo's Mexican Restaurant, practiced music at night. David took me on his motorcycle on the road to Austin to Antique shops, flea markets to look for Fender & Gibson guitars, speakers, posters etc. Mary & Led Paul memorabilia,  albums etc. He was the best friend. I'm still having a hard time believing he has transitioned so soon. We texted pretty often about holidays & our kids. His 3, my 5. Always kind, loving, & supportive. Miss him much. Friends since 1969.
