Dachun Wang passed away peacefully on March 28th, 2024 after a long battle with melanoma cancer. He had recently celebrated his 70th birthday, and he is survived by his daughter, Sang, and his wife, Minhui.
Dachun was born in Fuzhou, China on February 15, 1954. His childhood was a difficult one having grown up in the era of the Cultural Revolution and being forced to work in the countryside as a peasant. Despite all of this, he was determined to create a better life for himself and eventually received degrees from Fujian Medical College and Sun Yat-sen University.
Dachun had worn many hats in his long career in the medical field. He had spent time as a medical doctor and forensic investigator before eventually moving to the United States and dedicating his life to stem cell research at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. His extensive research in human stem cells has led to more than 30 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Dachun enjoyed the simpler things in his personal life. He loved going crabbing in Galveston, cooking, chatting about current events, and getting the family together on the couch to watch action movies. He will be dearly missed and will always hold a place in our hearts.
The funeral will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home & Cemetery on Saturday, April 13th at 2:00 PM. All friends and family are welcome. Simply bring yourself and your favorite memory of Dachun.
