Charles Leonard Pesek, 86, of Houston, died peacefully in his home on Friday, September 3, 2021. He was born in Jourdanton, Texas on November 4, 1934, to Tom and Lillie (Kallus) Pesek. The youngest of thirteen children, Charlie graduated from the University of Texas in 1958 with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. Following graduation, he served his country as an officer in the United States Army. He then worked as a registered Professional Engineer in various refineries and engineering construction companies, retiring from Bechtel Corporation in 2003.
In 1960, Charlie met Mary Haggard in Fort Worth, Texas. They were married on July 22, 1961, and shared 60 wonderful years together. In 1967, they moved to Houston, where they raised their eight children.
Charlie was known for his beautiful smile and his generous spirit in helping anyone who needed it. He was very thrifty and mechanically skilled, able to fix almost anything.
In his youth, Charlie was an all-around athlete, competing in football, basketball, baseball and track. As a father, he coached hundreds of Little League baseball and football games and instilled his love of sports in all his children. He coached and supported them in all their athletic and personal endeavors. In later years, he was particularly fond of analyzing games, second-guessing coaching, and debating strategies with friends and family.
Charlie lived a strong, quiet, humble faith in his calling as a loving husband and devoted father. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and KJT.
Charlie is survived by his beloved wife, Mary; daughters Natalie (Michael) Horak, Linda (Russell) Stockton, Katherine (Nathan) Smith; sons Chris (Debra) Pesek, Steve (Trina) Pesek, Ron Pesek, Wayne (Amy) Pesek, Matthew (Jennifer) Pesek; brother George (Anna) Pesek; sister-in-law Theresa Pesek; 22 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
