

Barry Eugene Blevins, 98, of Houston, Texas passed away on March 12, 2025. He was born on July 27, 1926 in Highland Kansas, one of four children, to Charles Emery and Cara Wavah Henry Blevins. After graduation from high school in Highland, Kansas, he joined the U.S. Army 11th airborne. He was stationed in Japan during World War II from 1945 -1946. Upon return he attended Highland Community College and then Kansas State College in Manhattan, Kansas, majoring in engineering. In 1950 he joined Shell Oil Company as a surveyor on a seismic party and worked in multiple locations. When he moved to Gainesville, TX he met Florence Evelyn Walter, who was home from college. On November 26, 1953, he married Florence in Gainesville, TX.
Barry worked for Shell for 36 years and his family (otherwise known as the “moving” Blevins) moved around throughout Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. During his career he worked as a surveyor, maintenance mechanic, shift foreman, and plant foreman. He held the position of plant foreman in Sealy, TX, as well as McCamey, TX, and Odessa TX. After he retired he and Florence moved to Kerrville, TX and later to Houston, TX.
Barry enjoyed traveling around the United States with Florence, hiking and camping with his family in their fold out camper, earning his pilot’s license in McCamey, hunting quail, gardening and landscaping, building a Folbot kayak with his sons, fishing, continuing his interest in photography, learning about computers and investments, and getting to know his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Barry is preceded in rest by his parents; brother, Bernard Blevins; sister, Wavah Jean Blevins Boos; cousin, Leonard Blevins; and wife, Lillie. He is survived by his wife, Florence Blevins; daughter, Belinda Blevins-Knabe and husband Michael Knabe; sons, Thomas Blevins and wife Donna, Philip Blevins, Joseph Blevins and wife Tresha; and daughter, Susan Blevins and husband Douglas Osterhus. Barry has 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Nolan Blevins and wife Beryl.
