Barbara Jean Simon passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 9th, 2023 surrounded by her daughter Rachel, and son, Jeff. She was born in Houston, Texas, on October 20th, 1937 to Ralph and Hallie Jones.
She attended Reagan High School where she played the French horn in the school band. She also enjoyed playing the piano and gave many recitals. As a young woman, she did some modeling and was the secretary to the director of the Contemporary Arts Museum. There she enjoyed being with the artists and hanging the shows.
Barbara met her husband and lifelong love, Russell on a blind date. After a long courtship, they were married on December 10, 1961. Together they raised Rachel and Jeff and enjoyed many adventures in their six decades of marriage.
When she wasn't traveling or sailing she loved cooking and entertaining or hosting family and friends for Jewish holidays or other celebrations. Barbara had great taste and flair whether it was fashion or creating warm, beautiful inviting homes. She was always everyone's favorite aunt or cousin. She was loyal and devoted to her friends and family.
Barbara is predeceased by her husband, Russell Simon, and her parents Ralph and Hallie Jones. She is survived by her daughter Rachel; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff (Dana Hart); and granddaughter Santana.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Barbara's name to Jewish Family Service or the charity of your choice.
