Barbara Jane Grey Doran, age 72, died April 7, 2013 at Houston Hospice. She was born on March 31, 1941 in Lodi, OH, the daughter of John William and Louise Kinjevari Grey and wife of Leo Michael Doran, Sr.
Barbara was a teacher for 53 years. She taught in the Jewish community for over three decades. She also taught on the Zuni Indian Reservation, Zuni, New Mexico. Barbara has been an icon in the education profession. She was also a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and active in ministry in the church. Barbara was devoted to her husband, her family and her students.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 34 years, Leo Michael, Sr., her brother John Grey and his wife Mary Beth of Sarasota FL, brother Robert Grey and wife Wendy of Orlando FL, brother Philip Grey and his wife Terri (deceased) of Akron, OH, sister Deborah and husband Udell Spears of San Antonio, TX, niece Majah Brown and great nephew, Kaleb Brown of San Antonio, and nephew, Capt. Daaron Spears of Ft Carson, CO.
Barbara is also survived by Rita Ann Flanders, her husband's sister of Kansas City, MO., Paul B. Doran, her husband's brother of Newton, IO. In addition Leo Michael Doran Jr. of Kansas City, MO., and Sean P. Doran of Irving, TX. Sean was taught by Barbara on the Zuni Indian Reservation.
Visitation with the family will take place on Thursday, April 11, 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home, 6700 Ferris, Bellaire, TX 77401. A Memorial Tribute for Barbara will also take place on Thursday, April 11, 8:30 pm at Young Israel of Houston, 7823 Ludington Dr, Houston, TX 77071.
The family will also greet visitors on Friday, April 12 beginning at 10:00 am, with the Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 am, Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Her burial will be held on Monday, April 15, 11:00 am, at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, TX, 77038.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 9900 Stella Link Rd., Houston, TX 77025, or the school where Barbara was a much beloved teacher, Sephardic Gan Torat Emet School, 9730 Hillcroft Ave., Houston, TX 77096.
