Austin Richard Duffy, 81, a native Houstonian, passed away quietly at his home on January 28, 2012. He is survived by his daughter Amanda Mabry and son-in-law Don Mabry of Shreveport, LA. He was preceeded in death by his wife Marie Duffy.
Austin was born in 1930 to Richard and Mabel Duffy who lived in the Houston Heights. Richard Duffy was a real estate agent and helped to develop parts of Bellaire.
Austin's life was shaped by growing up during the Great Depression and as a result he appreciated the small things in life and never took anything for granted. He was a graduate of Shreiner Institute in Kerrville, Tx and later received a degree in government from the University of Texas in Austin. He was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. His father wanted Austin to work with him in the real estate business, but wearing a suit and tie everyday did not appeal to Austin so he started helping his mother run the apartments the family owned. He continued buy, sell and manage apartments until 2006, doing most of his own maintenance during this time.
Austin loved the fine arts, including the ballet, opera and symphony and he also loved to go to his family's old home place near Hamilton, Tx where the original 1880's house still existed. He loved to spend weekends there trimming cedar trees, fishing and keeping the fire in the old stove burning.
Services will be at 1:00 pm at the Earthman Chapel in Bellaire and internment will be at Forest Lawn Lawndale cemetery in Southeast Houston.
