lice Ruth (Brown) Adams was born on September 6, 1931 in Clarksville, Arkansas, to Clarence and Ollie Alice (Guthrie) Brown. Ruth passed away peacefully on the morning of Sunday, August 6, 2023, just one month shy of her 92nd birthday. She and her husband, Clyde Irby Adams, raised two daughters, Teresa Marie and Lesha Ruth, in Lovington, New Mexico, where they owned and operated Adams Electric. Ruth became the first female journeyman electrician in the state. She was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a devoted member of the Jackson Avenue Baptist Church, and participated in numerous activities including the Jubilee Choir, her sorority group, and her bridge group. After losing her husband of 60 years, Ruth moved to Houston and found a new church home at Houston’s First Baptist Church.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Adams, and her daughter, Lesha Adams, as well as her four sisters, Marie, Dorothy, Margaret, and Patsy. She is survived by her daughter, Teresa (Teri) Webb, of Bellaire, Texas; grandchildren Traci Vogiatzis and husband, Kopi, and their children Gabriel, Jacob, Elena, and Isabella; Ronnie Shaull and wife, Jennifer, and their children, Jessica, Jayden, and Matthew; daughter-in-law Stefanie Marsh and children, Olivia Adams-Marsh and Ava Adams-Marsh; and her brother, Bobby Brown, and wife, Ivon.
Memorial services will be held at Houston’s First Baptist Church,7401 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77024, Monday, August 21st, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception at the church. Services will also take place in Lovington, New Mexico, at Jackson Avenue Baptist Church, at a later date.
The family would like to thank all of the wonderful aides, nurses, therapists, doctors, and staff at Clarewood House for providing such loving, excellent care to Ruth, especially in her final days. We will be eternally grateful.
