I just saw that the most honorable and honest man I have ever known has died and I know that he is in heaven with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I met Frank Gurule in 1986 and we became friends. In many ways we were trusted companions in business and personally.  His strength was his faith and his devotion to his family. I love that he lived his beliefs and my wife and I listened to parenting ideas and applied them to our family. Our first child was born in 1991. 
God Bless you Frank. I can’t wait to see you in heaven.

On his last trek to his hometown of New Mexico, I jokingly told him to behave and to try not to give my Nana away to the Indians and he laughed and said “those are tall orders but I’ll try my best. I’ll pray for patience and no gifts to the Indians”. When they got back, he gave me this and said “Chief Sitting Bull said ‘squaw no work you take back.’ So that’s why your Nana is still here.” And I would keep this on my desk and send him a picture of him before my quizzes or exams to tell him I had my “good luck charm” and he would say “I know you can do it mija!” I go through those texts before I take my quiz or exam and that’s the voice that I will continue to hear in my head as I continue in my educational journey. I dedicated my bachelor degree to him, and decorated my cap for him and he wore it proudly and that’s a memory I will forever cherish.

The first thing out of my Papa’s mouth any and every time I saw him was “how’s school going?” Even when he was in the hospital, he was asking ME how I was doing.. that just goes to show you what kind of person my Papa was.. Selfless, compassionate, loving.. more than words can describe.

My Papa was the best dancing partner. And he would dance to ANYTHING. His most famous dance move was what he called “The Funky Chicken” where he flapped his arms around to the beat all while maintaining the most serious face, in full concentration. There was no plantar fasciitis pain that could stop him after a few glasses of his favorite “shabliblabli”.

God has received another Angel!
He always had a beautiful smile and the biggest heart! 
I am very blessed to have met him and call him my friend!

So many fond memories of Frank,he  was a kind and giving man,accepted everyone without batting an eyelash. Always made us feel welcome and treated us like family,so much so for 20+ yrs my son called him Papa and he was treated like a grandson which was a blessing. 1 of the fondest memories my son has is going to church with his papa and nana on Sundays and then joining the entire family afterwards for lunch. I could go on and on but anyone who knew Frank knows he was 1 of a kind. You will be dearly missed. Rest in paradise Frank..

Our family is so sad to hear of the passing of Frank. I have the fondest memories of our time in our respective City Councils and of course our Sundays' Mass in St Matthias in HP.  Frank was a man of great faith, a dedicated public servant but above all, loved his family dearly.  I know heaven welcomed him and now he is in the arms of our Lord. May his soul rest in peace.
