William Sheldon

William W. Sheldon of Churchville MD, age 88, passed away December 12, 2023. Born in 1935 to Donovan Sheldon and Frances Berger, Bill grew up in Franklin, N.J among a large extended family of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. He graduated from Lehigh University in 1957 with a degree in chemical engineering, and then entered the United States Army. During his 28 year military career, he served as an airborne infantryman, Green Beret serving 2 tours of duty in Vietnam, planner for Reforger Exercises in West Germany, member of the Inspector General’s office, and Executive Officer of the Garrison at Aberdeen Proving Ground. By his side throughout his military service was his wife Catherine with whom he had 3 children. He enjoyed reading, music, crosswords, woodworking, and joking and laughing with his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years Catherine McGarity Sheldon and his second wife Catherine Barranger after 8 years of marriage. He is survived by his sister Judy Sheldon; son Whit Sheldon (Missy), daughters Lisa Shue (Lloyd) and Caroline Miller (Pat); grandchildren Rachel, Tommy and Catherine Shue and Freddy and Danny Miller; niece Kristy Martin and great nephew Cameron Martin. He is also survived by his bonus children Danetta Garfink (Dan), Mark Restivo (Rebekah) and Lynne Restivo; grandchildren Helena Ilardo (C.J.), James and Olivia Garfink and Hannah Restivo, as well as 3 great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather for a celebration of life at Schimunek Funeral Home, 610 W. MacPhail Road, Bel Air on Saturday December 16, 2023 at 11 am with a service beginning at 12 noon.
