Valerie Jean Brokus

Valerie Jean Brokus (nee Ober), age 73, of Bel Air, MD, passed away on April 16, 2023. She was the beloved wife of James John Brokus, Sr.; loving daughter of the late Elmer and Ida Ober, and her late foster parents, Laura Bechee and her husband Ralph; devoted mother of James John Brokus, Jr. and his wife Tammy, Michael Joseph Brokus and his wife Donna, and the late Valerie Jean Brokus; cherished grandmother of James John Brokus, III, Robert Lee Brokus, Ryan Joseph Brokus, Christopher Joseph Brokus, Veronica Lynn Brokus, Ashley Duchnowski, and the late Timothy Edward Brokus; dear sister of James Ober, the late Harry Ober, the late George Ober, and the late Georgia Haught, her foster siblings, James Bechee and his wife Andrea, Alice Hrehocik and her husband Eric, and the late Carolyn Nichols and her husband Bruce. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, as well as her dear friends Alice Edwards and Adele Davis.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Schimunek Funeral Home of Bel Air, 610 W. MacPhail RD, Bel Air, MD 21014, on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, from 6-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at 10:30 AM, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church (Hickory). Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Valerie’s name to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
