Mr. Powers was my gym teacher at PMES around when I was around 6-8. Him and Mr.Horn always put a smile on my face. Although I’m only 12 now I feel tremendous pain knowing he’s no longer here. Ever time I saw him during gym I would smile. He always had the funniest jokes and knew how to make anyone smile. He is very missed. Rest easy Mr.Powers

I remember one time, he told me I had to do the curl up test for the fitness gram. I always felt self-conscious about how poorly I scored, so I said no. He pulled me out of class when I told him this and he gave me a hug telling me I should do it still, and so we walked in together and I only got like 15. He gave me a couple extra in my score sheet so I could meet the healthy fitness zone! 😂

I was a student at Prospect Mill, Mr. Powers taught me in gym for 5 years in a row. It broke my heart to hear that he had passed. He and Mr. Horn made gym my favorite day of the week. He always had a smile on his face. Sending the best wishes to his family, and children.

Roy and Carol , Valerie and I want to send our love and prayers. Scott has always had a special place in my heart. I will forever remember the times I had to ask him to leave the basketball court to come to baseball practice and he would look at me with that smile ( that smile!!!) . Loved that smile. I am so very sad to hear this news about Scott.  I think back to when he first came to Prospect Mill, a young man just starting out his teaching career.  He was a part of my Special Area Team there for so many years.  Many Special Area meetings and Sports Days come to mind, as well as seeing Jordyn and Cameron go through their elementary years there at Prospect Mill.  My heart hurts for all of you now.  May God comfort you during this time of grieving.  You all are, and will be, on my mind and in my prayers in the days and months to come.  

I had Mr. Powers as a gym teacher at Prospect Mill Elementary School while I was there from 2000-2005. Gym was my favorite subject probably all throughout school but Mr Powers always new how to make it fun and bring out my competitive side…little did I know this would continue to when I would see him on the golf course at Mountain Branch. Always picking up on old conversations and knowing that he truly cared with every question he asked. Rest easy Mr. Powers you’ll be missed!

Mr. Powers was my gym teacher for my 7 years at prospect mill. He was one of my favourite teachers, he was kind. Strict and he believed in all of his students. He would always tell me to try harder because he knew that I was just doing it because I have to, not to have fun and now I actually try. I try my hardest no matter what. When I first went to 6th grade I wanted to come back for a reunion. I wanted my future children to be pushed like I was. To try and succeed. And at first I didn’t believe he was gone. I can’t believe it. Mr powers was a man to lookup to. And he still is. Rest In Peace. 

I am deeply saddened to hear this news about Mr.  Powers. My husband, brother in law, sisters, and I all had Mr. Powers when we attended Prospect Mill Elementary School many years ago. Mr. Powers was an amazing teacher. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, children, family, and friends.

Scott was in both of my weddings.  This was at the rehearsal dinner from my second in May of 2014. 

You’ll always be my brother Porky. Love you and will miss you tremendously!!  

I believe this was taken in 95 or 96. We were both home from college enjoying our time together with other friends. 

I could go on for hours about Scott’s abilities as a basketball player and how hard he worked to become one of the best college players in the country (I truly believe this), but I just want to share what a great person and teammate he was to us younger players coming to Bridgewater. He was always so encouraging and never once came across as arrogant or above anyone despite his status as one of our team’s leaders and best players.  As easy as he made basketball look on the court, he made it look just as easy to be a humble and caring human being. I am blessed to have been able to call him a teammate and friend and I send all of my love to his beautiful family. 

Scott and I were mere children when we met at Woodstown High School. I have beyond fond memories of our time together.  And have thought of him, Keith, Roy & Carol often over the last thirty plus years. My heart is with you all, always. 

The HarCo PE teachers ALWAYS entertained my ideas! This was at the spring PE team in service. I made my teenage boys get in the mascot costumes while we delivered JRFH banners and congratulated the teachers. Sending prayers. 

I had the pleasure of working with Scott when I was the “Jump Rope for Heart lady” a few years ago. The day he held this event I was at a school on the Eastern Shore and knew I wouldn’t be able to visit PMES. He texted me this pic jokingly saying “you’re missing the fun in HarCo!” And I know these children whose lives he touched will have awesome memories. I wish I had the right words in times like these, I’m praying for all those that loved him. 

Our family met Scott( Mr. Powers) first as our oldest daughter Brianna ‘s gym teacher at PMES. That was 20 years ago. The entire family has been in our lives to this day. Jordyn goes to WVU with our youngest daughter , Caitlyn . She has been friends with her since Kindergarten. All three of my daughters ( including Bridgette , now a teacher herself) experienced their gym classes with Mr. Powers and loved his vibrant , laid back , fun loving personality. I really can’t find the words here . Haven’t quite been able to wrap my head around any of this. I’m sure no one really can. I pray that Scott is at peace with our maker. Watching his family and children and knowing that he will no longer be in physical pain. RIP Scott. ❤️🙌🏻So many years , so many great memories. 

I grew up in Woodstown playing basketball and looking up to Scott. I was much younger, but I felt like I made it when he picked me to be on his team. He meant a lot to younger kids that wanted to play ball. He will never be forgotten. I wish the family strength during this hard time. I hope there’s a nice court up there. When we meet again, I got next.

Very, very sad news.  All 3 of my daughters had Mr. Powers for PE while at PMES.  They all looked forward to that class because he was fun, easy going and encouraging. My daughter, Ashleigh, was a Panda from 2011-2017.  She was so lucky to have Mr. Powers as her phys ed teacher for many of those years.  We remember him fondly, as a very kind, caring, and personable teacher, who loved the children and his job.  We are very saddened by the news of his passing. Scott's cousins and brother from when we were children. He was an amazing friend, cousin, brother, son, and father. I love you cousin and u will always be a part of who I am today. Keith is waiting for u with open arms. 

The news of Mr Powers passing away has really saddened our family, especially for my son whom has had him as a gym teacher. I was also lucky to have volunteered at PMES for a field day and saw how amazing he was with the kids at school. On another occasion, my son was being bullied at school in gym class and spoke to him concerning it and he handled it right away. He comforted my son and made sure he was comfortable coming out of his shell and gaining confidence at school. I could see how much he loved his job and took pride in his work. 
I know he’s up in heaven in peace, however we will be praying for his children and hope they find solace knowing their dad loved them.

To the Powers Family,

My prayers are with all of you. Scott (Mr. Powers to many) touched so many lives. My brother and I was fortunate enough to have him as a gym teacher. He cared for everyone of his students like they were his own. When Scott became the CMW JV basketball coach, he asked my brother if he could video tape all of their games.  I traveled along with my mom and brother to every game. Scott treated us as if we were apart of the team. My brother and I were seriously on cloud nine.  Fast forward a year later, my brother was in the intensive care unit for over week.  Scott went out of his way to help my family and checked in with me at school to make sure I was doing ok. This is just one of many examples of how he truly cared about everyone.  My heart goes out to everyone who was lucky enough to know him. 



I have struggled with this since I heard the heartbreaking news of Scott’s death Sunday. Gone far too soon.  My son had the good fortune of having Scott as a teacher during his years at PMES.  He has very fond memories of that time and Mr. Powers. After my son left PMES I began working there and spent my fair share of time in his classes. It was not unusual for us to share a laugh or shake our heads at something happening in class. Scott was always very kind to me.  I wish him peace. I pray for comfort for his children, parents and all the lives he touched.  R.I.P Mr. Powers, thank you for touching our lives.

Mr. Powers was my gym teacher in 2014 and until this day, being in 10th grade he’s still one of my favorite teachers. Him and the other gym teacher Mr. Hagen would make any day brighter for me and pull me out of my shell. I am very sorry for your loss and I hope he can make peoples day a little brighter in heaven. Mr. Powers will be missed by our family. He was a teacher for both of my kids. He made it fun and they always enjoyed his class. I appreciated him for his help and giving time for PTA events. My greatest condolences go out to his family, co-workers, students and friends.

Mr. Powers was one of the most amazing teachers. I am now a senior in college and can remember his class like it was yesterday, a class guaranteed to be filled with laughter! I am so sorry to hear about Scott's passing. I was a sub at PMES for a number of years while both of boys attended K-5th so I had the chance to speak with and sub for "Mr. Powers" often. He was a nice guy that all of the kids loved.  This is a horrible loss.

When I first moved to Bel Air and joined prospect mill Elementary, Mr. powers helped me open up and make new friends. He also made gym class super fun. Now a sophomore in college I will never forget those memories. It saddens me to hear the news, you had such and amazing impact on kids and families . Rest in paradise Mr. Powers.

Mr. Powers always made our daughter laugh, and enjoy every sport. She said he was always so cool and nice to everyone. He made PE so much fun! She is saddened by this news. Hope he's flying above with the angels and smiling.

Scott is both a friend /basketball teammate and teacher to my son.  I have lots of good memories  playing basketball with him and  hanging out afterwards talking about  our families.     My son had a great experience with him as a teacher.  My deepest sympathies to the family

My children’s elementary school journey would not have been the same without Mr. Powers.  He made my sons feel special, and they always had fun in PE.  They still love playing sports for fun in college.  Our family will always remember Scott for the lifelong joy of sports he helped instill in them. I remember looking foward to every gym class, just for Mr. Powers to make fun of me and crack jokes at each other. I’m praying for all of you.

Im 22 and still remember so clearly him and his amazing personality from elementary school. Praying every day for the whole family, will never stop thinking about all of you.
