While I was not particularly close to Dick due to distant offices and different majors, I always remember his clever  and humble wit. His professional development sessions weren't about him. Everybody was good in Dick's eyes--including the camera "eye" he turned on faculty at one PD session; good fun. 
I was genuinely saddened to hear of his passing, finding him such a pleasant, under-the-radar colleague who was happy to help others. I pray his family and friends are encouraged at the thoughts others have of him. I am very sure I am not alone, even beyond those who leave memories of him here. Amen.

Dear Susan and family, I can’t tell you how terribly sorry I was to hear about Dick. Dick and I were colleagues at HCC for more than 30 years. I always loved talking sports with him, especially the Orioles and Ravens.  And, like everyone else in Bel Air Hall, I always looked forward to our fantastic building parties, because Dick and so many others, brought something wonderful for all of us to enjoy.  I am certainly no cook, so the marvelous culinary contributions brought by people such as Dick were especially appreciated. Dick was kind, caring and generous. Without doubt, he was one of the most dedicated and  respected members of the Harford Community College family.  May all of you in Dick‘s family find peace and consolation in his memory, and may God be with all of you in this difficult and challenging time. My thoughts and prayers are with  you.  Marion Lanham

One of our best friends, our griller at the pool all summer, our travel Buddy, our turkey and gravy chef at Thanksgiving;   over 40 years of friendship and memories. 
Our hearts go out to Susan, Kaitie and Jon, who we will always be close to.  

 

Dick was always there when I got to Bel Air Hall in the mornings.  I could always count on him being there early.  We were the only two in the building so early in the morning.  Dick's presence made me feel safe.

I loved talking with him.  He could be stubborn at times, especially if he felt someone wronged him.  But I loved getting his point of view even if I could not budge him from his standpoint, which was always!

Outside of school, Bob and I loved picking grapes with Dick and Susan each year, having a lot of fun,  and drinking the wine.  We were sorry when that tradition ended.

Susan, I am so sorry for you and your daughter.  I cannot tell you how much it meant to me when you checked on me the morning after I was admitted to the hospital.  I will always remember Dick's and your kindness and friendship.

I regret that Weston  and I- or at least I did not get to meet Richard but every picture you have sent of him and your family through the years have caused me to think he was someone I wished I knew.  I’m praying for you and your family.  With all my love, Aunt Pat Guthrie
