Mohamed, also fondly known as “Moe,” was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He attended New York City Public Schools and graduated from John Jay High School in Brooklyn.
As a young man, his passion for boxing led him to a Golden Gloves one round knock-out. Although he didn’t pursue a career in boxing, he never missed a boxing match with his closest friends.
Mohamed honorably served in the U.S. Army in the 1980’s. In 1995, he moved from New York to Maryland, which would become his second home. While he enjoyed living in Maryland, he still loved visiting his hometown of Brooklyn, which he did often. He loved Junior’s pastrami sandwiches and would never leave New York without having one.
In 1997, Mohammed, joined the Baltimore Police Department, where he would serve the citizens of Baltimore with honor and distinction for 22 years. He retired as a Police Detective in the Warrant Apprehension Task Force on May 1, 2019.
Moe’s love of policing would be a major influence to his eldest son, Mohammed, who would follow in his father’s footsteps and join him in Baltimore as a Police Officer in 2001.
“Big Moe” was a private man that enjoyed being surrounded by his family and friends. He loved the holiday season and especially looked forward to his sister, Zeinab’s macaroni and cheese. In addition to boxing, Mohamed loved traveling and music of all genres. Latin music and anything sung by Elvis were among his favorites. He traveled often to Florida and loved staying by the beach in Pompano.
Mohamed leaves to cherish his memory, his son, Mohammed Ali and his wife, Ragina; son, Tyler Ali O’Brien; and granddaughter, Ayannah Ali.
