Sergeant Major Joseph John Kelly, USMC (Retired), beloved husband of Lucy Mary Kelly, devoted father of Debbie Kelly Schreiber, and respected father-in-law of Dr. Fred Sirkis, passed away peacefully. He leaves behind cherished grandchildren Brian, Corey, Kevin; Erica(wife); and great-grandchildren Emma and Jace.
Joe, born in St. Louis, MO, was destined for the Marine Corps. Intercepted by the Marines just before signing with another branch at 17, he dedicated 28 years to serving his country, retiring as Sergeant Major. Starting in the infantry, Joe seized every opportunity to excel, serving in various roles including door gunner, instructor, recruiter, and command. Deployed to Vietnam, Korea, and Japan with Recon, he earned accolades including the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star with Valor for protecting fellow Marines during combat, assuming leadership roles in the face of enemy attacks.
His final station was at Marine Corps Headquarters, adjacent to Arlington National Cemetery and the Pentagon. In retirement, Joe remained active in the American Legion, Marine Corps League, Toys for Tots, and Fleet Marine Force. His legacy of service and commitment will be deeply missed by family and friends.

A visitation for Joseph will be held Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Schimunek Funeral Home of Bel Air, Inc., 610 W MacPhail Rd, Bel Air, MD 21014.
