On May 19, 2018, Joan Elizabeth Krause (nee Abbey), age 79, passed away at Forest Hill Heights in Forest Hill, MD. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland on March 5, 1939 to the late William John and Julia Chmielewski Abbey. Joan attended Sacred Heart of Mary School and graduated in 1956 from Seton High School in Baltimore, MD. Joan and her family moved from Dundalk, MD to Bel Air, MD in 1972. She was a homemaker and later worked for Hochschild Kohn in the Harford Mall. She enjoyed traveling, painting, and spending time with her family and friends.
Joan will be forever loved and missed by her husband Melvin Gustav Krause, whom she married in 1958. They would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on October 12, 2018.
She is survived by her children Kelly Bays (Jim) of Aberdeen, MD and David Krause (Brenda) of Aberdeen, MD; grandchildren Jacob Bays (fiancé Danielle Naeser), Julie Mullecker (Bill), Josh Bays, and Jonathan, Katie, and Andrew Krause. She is predeceased by her daughter Kimberly A, Krause, and her brother William J. Abbey.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather at Schimunek Funeral Home of Bel Air 610 W. MacPhail RD, Bel Air, MD 21014, on Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 3-5 and 7-9pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday, at 11am at the funeral home. Interment services will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery (Baltimore, MD). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan’s name to the American Heart Association 4217 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen, VA 23060-9979.
