Harold grew up in the deep South. He attended University of Mississippi as well as Southern Mississippi University. He earned a masters degree in mathematics and geology from the University of Tennessee. In addition he did post-graduate studies in educational administration at William and Mary.
His career was spent working in the Civil Service for the US Army. His positions took him to the Redstone Arsenal, in Huntsville, AL, Fort Monroe Army Base in Hampton, VA, and Aberdeen Proving Ground in Aberdeen, MD. He retired in June, 1990.
He is survived by his wife, four daughters, and multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren.
